Your wedding photos are SUCH an important part of your big day, and for many, a big investment. They’re the mementoes that make the magic of your wedding celebrations last long after the champagne has been drunk and your guests have departed, acting as a reminder of your celebration for years to come.
In order to get the best photos, you and your photographer must have clear communication before, during and after the day. We want to know your priorities and expectations, to deliver the best service and make all of your wedding photo dreams come true. Having a chat before the big day to outline your specific needs lets us do our best work, so that you can do what you’re supposed to - enjoy the day!
Here’s three things you can ask your photographer to do for you, so you receive the gallery you’ve always imagined.
Photos of both parties getting ready
Often, clients book one photographer for their day, which leaves a lot of ground to cover; especially if you and your partner are getting ready separately. This can mean that a lot of your chosen professional’s time and attention will be focused on just one person of the happy couple, leaving you short of shots of your other half.
If you want to make sure that both parties are featured equally in the ‘getting ready’ photos, then discuss this with your photographer beforehand. They’ll be able to let you know if this is realistic – if your rooms are far away from each other, or one person is making their preparations at home, you may need to consider having two photographers.
First Look photos
Traditionally, it was deemed to be bad luck to see your future spouse before the ceremony, so the first time the couple would see each other would be at the end of the aisle. In modern weddings, this is changing, and as a result, a trend for ‘first look’ photographs has emerged. Instead of waiting, the couple see each other as soon as they’re ready, meeting in a designated place for an intimate moment together before they see their guests. Often, the photographer will get one member of the couple to face the opposite direction, and then get them to turn around at the same time as they click the shutter. The result is a true depiction of their first reaction to seeing their loved one, and is a really sentimental moment before heading to the ceremony.
Photos of reception decor
Even once the rings have been exchanged, the day is far from over – you still have the excitement of the party to come! Many couples put a huge amount of consideration into choosing everything from the table centerpieces to the flowers, so if it’s important to you to capture some photos of your beautiful setup before your guests come in and things get moved, ask your photographer to slip into the reception venue early so they can get some photos of the space you lovingly designed.
Planning is key
Working closely with your photographer on what photos are a priority to you allows you to maximize both your time and theirs; our job is to photograph everything most important to you, so let your photographer know where you’d like them to focus so they can deliver all of the best from your day.
