Today we’re breaking down some of the myths surrounding boudoir photography - we’re talking body types, posing, and how much or how little you really need to wear. As a boudoir photographer here in Halifax, I’ve heard it all - and I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to wait to lose 10 pounds, or have a closet full of racy lingerie to book a session and boost your self-confidence!
I don’t have the right kind of body for boudoir
This is the myth that bothers me the most! There is no “right” kind of body for a boudoir session. Every single person deserves to celebrate the body they live in, whether it’s short, tall, lean, or curvy - a boudoir session is the perfect way to fall in love with yourself as you are! Not to mention - a good photographer is going to find your best angles and poses, be your hype girl, and make you look your absolute best. Make sure you connect with your photographer and trust them to bring out the best in you!
My photos are going to end up on the internet
NOPE! I never, ever post intimate images without full consent from my clients. Whether you’re comfortable enough to bare it all to the world or you want to keep everything to yourself, privacy is paramount and nothing is shared without express permission.
Boudoir means I have to get naked/wear lingerie
No, you don’t. I’ve photographed clients in everything from their birthday suit to jeans and loose cardigan! Wear what makes you comfortable, and bring lots of options - a sweater slipped over the shoulder can be sensual and romantic, and a bodysuit under a pair of jeans offers lots of coverage. You can wear as much or as little as you want!
I’m too old for this kind of photo session
There is no such thing as being too old for a photo session! Whether you’re 25 or 75, you deserve to feel beautiful, sexy, glam, and bad-ass!
I’ll never print these photos/share these photos with someone
First of all, you don’t need to have a partner or someone you want to do these photos for - many people choose an intimate portraiture session to capture themselves for themselves only! Think you won’t want to hang a few up? We can grab some seriously cool, artsy shots that are totally unidentifiable to your house guests when they visit! Many clients also create or order a photo book to look back on for decades to come.
I don’t know how to pose in pictures
Honestly? Me either. But I do know how to pose other people! I’ve been shooting boudoir for over 6 years now, and am here every step of the way to show you how to bring out your best angles, pop your booty out, and feel like a queen. No experience needed on your end!
Boudoir photography is cheesy/tacky/gaudy
Boudoir photography has evolved from the older styles of super glam and elaborate sets to simpler, more natural sessions - nowadays, you’ll find lots of bare feet along with the heels, less corsets and more romantic lace sets. Current trends cover everything from moody to bright and flowy - no hot pink corsets, leopard print heels or funky props (fuzzy handcuffs, anyone?) needed!
