Like most of my 2020 couples, Tabatha and Connor’s original wedding date was a no-go. They were supposed to tie the knot at the end of May at the gorgeous Lord Nelson Hotel but had to postpone their big celebration until next year. However, they didn’t let that keep them down - they actually said their “I do’s” with a JOP on their original date by themselves!
We got together at the stunning Grand Pré Wines in Wolfville, Nova Scotia for a bridal session to celebrate their secret nuptials and I couldn’t be happier with what we created. Not only did we have some beautiful light and lush vines to shoot in, but we were surprised with a gorgeous Valley sunset just before we left, which ended up giving us some of my favourite images! Scroll through to see some of the top images from our session - countdown is on for their Halifax wedding in May 2021!

Like many couples who planned to tie the knot this year, Kaitlin and Brock had to make the difficult decision to postpone until 2021. This didn’t stop them from celebrating in their own way this year - I met up with them on their way to a camping trip in Cape Breton on their original wedding date in July, and finally got to shoot my first engagement session of the year!
We created some magic at the Herring Cove trails just outside of Halifax - read more to see some of my favourites from their session.

A little bit of rain (okay, maybe some downpours) didn’t stop this beautiful wedding in Annapolis Valley from going ahead! Lily and Jackson said their vows in Lily’s parents backyard in Grand-Pré (right next to the grounds of Domaine de Grand Pré, who were kind enough to let us use their winery for some wedding photos).
In an intimate setting of 16 people, you could really feel the love surrounding this sweet couple - and the rain held off enough for us to get photos with all of their guests! Lily & Jackson also introduced me to the View Park, which was an absolutely stunning backdrop for some of their couple’s images.

Let me preface this post by saying: you do not need to be productive right now. We are all going through a scary, emotional, and traumatic event, and however you need to deal with and process that is perfectly okay! For photographers based in Halifax, NS, we are in week 4 of isolation, and spending such a prolonged amount of time alone (or with your family/partner) is really tough; it’s easy to go a bit shack-wacky when you’re not allowed to work or shoot any creative projects.
For me personally, I felt really productive during the first two weeks of isolation, but as things have progressed I’ve certainly slowed down and switched my focus to managing my mental health and stress. That said, I generally feel better if I accomplish a few tasks that have been on my to-do list, so here are some ideas if you’re wondering how to stay busy and inspired during this time at home!

Announcement: Coronavirus & Your Wedding
I want to acknowledge and discuss the issue we are all talking about right now - Coronavirus/COVID-19 - and how it relates to you and your wedding plans. I know this is a stressful time for everyone, and you may be panicking about your upcoming wedding and whether your day will go as planned. I hope that you and your families are staying safe and healthy during this difficult time.
With the current pandemic and the risk of your wedding being moved or cancelled, I want to take some time to address cancellations and rescheduling, as well share the precautions I am taking to keep things safe and sanitary for all upcoming photography work. At this time, I am still planning to work all weddings that are booked, I am not making any cancellations on my end, and I intend to complete all booked weddings for the upcoming season.
As a small business here in Halifax (a teeny tiny business - it’s just me!), this is a very scary time and I want to make sure you know that I am here for you and will do everything I can to make your wedding planning less nerve-racking with all that is happening right now. I am keeping up with all government announcements and recommendations and am hoping that by the time your wedding date arrives, we will be able to proceed as normal. I am hoping that by sharing these policies and options, it will help alleviate some of the stress that you may be experiencing right now.

When I first met Caitlin Gray, I knew she was someone really special - she’s the type of person who greets you with a warm hug and makes you feel like you’ve known each other forever when it’s really only been five minutes. I’ve been fortunate enough to work together with her many times since, as she is the owner and lead planner at Gray Weddings & Events, a full-service wedding and event planning and coordination company based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
I caught up with Caitlin last week talk about all things involved in wedding planning here in Nova Scotia - read on to see our interview, with some photos from an amazing shoot we worked on together in 2019.

One of the first questions I get when I talk to a couple about my pricing and packages is - do I really need a second shooter?
My short answer: probably not. I shoot many weddings flying solo and have traveled all over Nova Scotia doing so! That said, it is completely dependent on your wedding day plans, and there are many situations in which you may want to consider having a second photographer to assist. Here’s when you should seriously consider adding a second photographer to your coverage.

Sara and Cadel tied the knot at the beautiful Acadia University campus just before the holidays this year, gathering some of their closest friends and family for an intimate ceremony and reception. We had the perfect blanket of snow for portraits, and I loved the bridesmaid’s burgundy dresses! Almost everything from Sara’s bridal look was vintage - how gorgeous does she look?
