If you’ve ever wondered if it’s possible to get a mountain backdrop for your wedding photos here in Nova Scotia… it is! Having a unique winter landscape backdrop was important to Cristy and Andrew, so after some careful research, we planned a road trip to Chéticamp to capture some bridal portraits right in the heart of the Cape Breton Highlands.
Now, I’ve shot some challenging wedding portraits in my career - Hurricane Dorian comes to mind - but this is at the top, for sure! After a white-knuckle drive along the coast, we were welcomed with a brutally cold day, with temperatures of -20 degrees… not exactly ideal for running around in a wedding dress and suit. Andrew and Cristy were such superstars, and their amazing attitude and willingness to freeze their butts off for the perfect photo made it such an incredible shoot that I will never forget! This was also my first time exploring this part of the Cabot Trail, and La Grande Falaise (the giant cliff featured behind this lovely couple) was truly a beautiful sight to see.
Special shoutout goes to my mom, who came with me for the trip, and to the amazing staff at Chéticamp Outback Inn who truly went above and beyond for our stay.
Cristy and Andrew, thank you so much for trusting me with these portraits and for being so fantastic to work with in spite of the freezing cold. I hope you treasure these images for decades to come!
